Well it is a winter’s day, it is December and there is ‘a freshly fallen, silent shroud of snow’ (albeit slight).

Written by Paul Simon, this first appeared on his solo album The Paul Simon Songbook but was later re-recorded by Simon and Garfunkel in 1965 and included on their album Sounds of Silence, released in 1966.

Simon’s original release was not a commercial success but as a duo the song reached number seventeen in the UK and number three in the US.
