I know it’s not Friday yet but I can see it in the distance…it’s very small but getting bigger every minute as it gets closer.

This was a break from tradition for The Cure and described as “a throw your hands in the air, let’s get happy kind of record” as well as “a very naïve, happy type of pop song” by The Cure front man Robert Smith.

Smith also claimed that this song was predominantly aimed at people who weren’t fans of The Cure…and it appears to have worked for them. The song became their second biggest single after Lullaby, reaching the top ten in seven different countries. It reached number one on the US Modern Rock chart and spent eight weeks on the UK charts, peaking at number six.
