1984 (1956).

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo….what a fun way to start a day! A mixture of childhood memories and good old British punk.

Originally written in 1956 by Ralph Butler and Peter Hart, this was first recorded by child actress Mandy Miller and produced by George Martin (yes, the George Martin). The song went on to become a favourite on BBC Radio’s Children’s Favourites during the 1950s and 1960s.

In 1982 punk band Toy Dolls, known for their covers and parodies of well known songs, recorded their version and on it’s original release it reached number one on the UK Indie Chart. It was later included on the 1983 album Dig That Groove Baby and then re-released as a single in 1984 when it spent fourteen weeks on the UK charts, peaking at number four.
