4 July, 1969.

I’m sorry but I have to disagree with Mr Jagger & Co. this morning. The song is a timely reminder that if, like me, you are lucky enough, then you can get what you want and what you need all at the same time. Getting married last weekend and starting a new job on Monday is proof enough of that!

From the album Let It Bleed, this was released as the B-Side to Honky Tonk Women, which spent five weeks at number one in the UK. In 1973 the song was re-released on the London Records label and although it never charted in the UK, it did make it into the US Billboard chart, peaking at number forty-two.

Despite not being a huge hit for the The Stones, it has gone on to become one of their most popular recordings and appeared on several of their compilation albums since its release. It was even used by Donald Trump for one of his campaign rallies in 2016, although the band were quick to state publicly that they do not endorse Trump and requested that he didn’t use their material again.
