I don’t know about champions but after our little victory in last night’s quiz, I can see why my head chose this particular song this morning.

Written by Freddie Mercury this was the first single released from the album News of the World and came about after a concert where fans sang You’ll Never Walk Alone to the band, inspiring Queen to write a song that would have people singing and waving their hands in the air – and that they did, coming up with one of the most recognisable anthems in rock history. According to a team of scientific researchers (yes, really), this song has the perfect combination of neuroscience, maths and cognitive psychology to make it the perfect sing-a-long song.

Despite all of that, the song failed to make it to the top of the charts, although it did give the band a global top ten hit, including reaching number four in the US. Here in the UK it spent eleven weeks on the chart and peaked at number two.
