April 1975.

I’m not surprised at all this morning, in fact I think I would have been more surprised if it wasn’t this. It had to be really. Oh, and just for the record, one year on and yes, most definitely, I still do.

Inspired by the music of the 1950s, particularly European Schlager music and the music of band leader Billy Vaughn, this was the song that put Abba back in the spotlight having struggled to prove themselves as more that just Eurovision winners.

This was also the song that started Abba-Mania in Australia and gave the group their first of many number ones in the country. It also reached number one in New Zealand, South Africa and Switzerland along with reaching the top ten in eight other countries. In the US it reached number fifteen whilst here in the UK it didn’t do so well, only peaking at number thirty-eight.
