20 May, 1972 (1958).

The whiny sound of a young Michael Jackson twiddly-diddly-deeing in my head first thing on a morning, no, that’s not going to get annoying in another hour or so. Not at all!

Written by Leon René under the pseudonym Jimmie Thomas, the song was originally titled Rock-In Robin and recorded by Bobby Day in 1958. It became Day’s biggest ever hit reaching number two in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and number one in the Rhythm & Blues chart.

In 1972 the song was revived by Michael Jackson and went on to be the biggest selling single from his album Got to Be There, reaching number two in the US and spending fourteen weeks on the UK chart, peaking at number three.
