1974.

You just can’t help but start the day with a smile when you wake up with the Mouse Organ mice singing in your head.

For anybody too young to remember, these were the Mouse Organ mice from the popular children’s television series Bagpuss. For those of you who do remember it, well, I just know you’re singing along right now, aren’t you?

The show was created in 1974 by puppeteers and animators Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate, with the voices of Sandra Kerr and John Faulkner.

Although there were only thirteen episodes made, it became a firm favourite and has been repeated regularly on television ever since. It is even said that Thom Yorke of Radiohead was a huge fan of Bagpuss and that the show was somewhat of an influence when writing their 2003 album Hail to the Thief.
