2 November, 1992.

Ah, we’ve all done it, haven’t we? Realised it’s been far too long since we last spoke to a friend, or friends, and told ourselves that we really must get in touch…once we’ve just done whatever it is that crops up in the meantime. It happens. Life happens. My advice though, to both myself and anybody reading this, is pick up the phone, make that call or send that text. Spend some time catching up.

Written by Neil Young and musician and record producer Ben Keith (best known for his pedal steel guitar work Young), this featured on the 1992 album Harvest Moon.

Following the recording of the 1990 album Ragged Glory, and the subsequent tour, Young was suffering with tinnitus. No surprise really when you listen to the album. As a result, when Young returned to the studio he opted for the acoustic guitar and banjo. At the same time analogue equipment was used for the recording, instead of modern digital. Young felt it created a warmer feel to the sound, harking back to the pre-digital era of music.

Whilst this song was never released as single, the album built on Young’s commercial success following Ragged Glory and even outsold its predecessor.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I really must catch up with some friends.
