8 March, 1968.

Surprise, surprise, it’s Cilla ‘ere! Yes, Cilla Black in my head first thing. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about that but you never know, maybe there is an actual surprise in store today.

Written by Paul McCartney as the theme song for Cilla’s first BBC television series entitled Cilla, that first aired in January 1968, this consisted of only one verse and a chorus. After a few weeks of it being used as the theme it was decided that the song needed another verse and McCartney stepped in again. Apparently the line ‘you look tired love’ is in direct reference to McCartney noticing how tired Black looked from all the television rehearsals

The song premiered live on the show on 5 March 1968 and following its release, spent nine weeks in the UK charts and peaked at number eight.
