9 March, 1999.

Which is just as well really…I’d be in a bit of a quandary if I felt like anything else.

Written by Shania Twain, along with her long-time collaborator and husband of the time Robert John “Mutt” Lange, this was originally released in the US as the seventh single from her 1997 album Come On Over. Twain has said herself that the inspiration for the song came from seeing drag queens perform at a resort where she once worked.

The song was aimed primarily at the Country music audience in the US, but after its popularity grew (taking it to number four on the Country chart) the song was released internationally in September 1999. It proved to be just as successful worldwide and reached the top ten in nine countries, including here in the UK where it spent twenty-two weeks on the chart and peaked at number three.

Incidentally, the video, as I’m sure you have probable noticed, pays homage to Robert Palmer’s Addicted to Love video but with a little role reversal thrown in for good fun.
