This is clearly the result of prolonged exposure to a die-hard Depeche Mode fan. Except I can’t even blame the aforementioned fan, not this morning at least, she hasn’t been near the Android in the corner for days now!

Written by Martin Gore, this was the third single released from Depeche Mode’s seventh studio album Violator. Whilst most people believe a ‘policy of truth’ to be a good thing, Gore seems to have turned that on its head with a song that suggests the truth is hurting the speaker more than the receiver.

Whilst not as successful as previous releases, this became Depeche Mode’s only single to achieve greater success in the US than in the UK. It reached number fifteen on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as number one on both the Dance Singles Sales and Alternative charts. Here in the UK it spent six weeks on the chart and peaked at number sixteen.
