1983.

This is conjuring up images of primary school PE lessons and black leotards. Very unflattering. Rather like this video…what was he thinking? More to the point, why do the backing singers look like they’re extras from a Star Trek episode?

Written by Harry Wayne Casey and Deborah Carter, this song was a comeback hit for the disco group as they sought to fight the backlash against disco music in the early ’80s.

It was released in the UK first where it spent fourteen weeks on the charts, including three weeks at number one, going on to become the eighteenth best selling record of the year and the band’s most successful in the UK. It also gave them a top ten hit in six other countries.

In the US though, the record label Epic refused to release the song so the band turned to the independent Mecca label, who were more than happy to support the single and it went on to peak at number eighteen in the US charts.

This song was the last hit the band had on either side of the Atlantic.
