Indeed I am. Every little bit of me. Okay, maybe not the little bit of me that had surgery last week, I think we’ll call that bit merely content for now. The rest of me though is as glad as a glad thing with something to be very glad about. Why? Well, quite simply, a drug free night means a clear head this morning and still minimal pain. I would say that is reason enough to be glad (almost) all over, wouldn’t you?

Written by Dave Clark and Mike Smith, this was the song that catapulted The Dave Clark Five well and truly into the pop limelight, and started the media fuelled rivalry between them and The Beatles.

This was the group’s first big hit, following on from Do You Love Me?scraping into the UK top thirty earlier the same year. Released first in the UK this spent twenty weeks on the chart and knocked The Beatles’ I Wanna Hold Your Hand from the number one spot, before spending two weeks there itself.

The song also did rather well in the US. It reached number six on the Billboard chart and meant they were the first British Invasion group, other than the The Beatles, to have a hit over there. Once again, fuelling the rivalry between the two groups.

It also made the top ten in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and Netherlands, as well as becoming the second best selling single in the UK in 1964. What was number one? Why, the The Beatles of course with Can’t Buy Me Love.
