When the holiday’s over and it’s back to work in the morning…

Originally written by Eddie Cochran and his producer Jerry Capehart, this was a huge hit with teenagers when Cochran released his original version in 1958. It gave him a global top twenty hit, reaching number eight in the US whilst here in the UK it spent six weeks on the chart and peaked at number eighteen.

In 1967 US rock band Blue Cheer recorded their version, which featured on their 1968 album Vincebus Eruptum. It is claimed that this became the first heavy metal single to make it into the pop charts, even before the likes of Steppenwolf and Iron Butterfly. It gave the band a number one in the Netherlands and reached number three in Canada and fourteen in the US.
