1976.

Looks like the inner jukebox has been rummaging around in long forgotten corners of my mind again. It just does that so well.

Written by songwriter and producer Jack Robinson along with French singer James Bolden (born Jacques Pepino but also known as David Christie, James Bolden and Napoleon Jones – he liked using pseudonyms), this was first recorded by English singer Tina Charles in 1975.

Charles had been recording for a number of years, even featuring on lead vocals for the 1975 disco hit I’m on Fire by 5000 Volts – although she never received credit for her contribution.

Through a mutual friend (Trinidadian singer Lee Vanderbilt), Charles met record producer and Disco pioneer Biddu who strongly encouraged her to record the song.

On its release the song became an instant success, reaching the top ten in eight countries worldwide. Here in the UK it spent twelve weeks on the chart including three weeks at number one. It would be her first of three UK top ten hits that year.
