Written by Robert Smith, this was a stand alone single released by the the Cure that was later included on the 1983 compilation album Japanese Whispers, released in the December. Smith later admitted that it was his least favourite song and tried to distance himself from it, admitting in a Rock & Folk magazine interview that it was “composed drunk, video filmed drunk, promotion made drunk. It was a joke.

He may well have regarded the song as a joke, but it went on to give the band their first UK top ten hit, spending thirteen weeks on the chart and peaking at number seven. It also made it into the Australian top ten in early 1984 where it reached number six.
