2 June, 1963.

I need mental floss, lots of it, or better yet, is it possible to bleach clean the brain? (Or did Trump try that one already?) It may be summer (allegedly), and I may well be on holiday, but this just feels like a step too far for the inner jukebox this morning.

Written by Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett of The Shadows, this was recorded by Cliff Richard for the 1963 film of the same name and was the second single to be released from the film’s soundtrack, following The Next Time earlier the same year.

On its release the song became a global hit, reaching number one in seven countries and number two in a further five. Here in the UK it spent eighteen weeks on the chart, including two weeks at number one before it was knocked off the top spot by The Shadows’ Foot Tapper (also from the film). A week later though, the song was back at number one for a third week.
