15 February, 1988.

Well, what do you expect when you’re awake at stupid o’clock on a Sunday to watch fast cars? By the way, spoiler alert…the inner jukebox called it right.

Written by band members, Paul Court, Steve Dullaghan and Tracy Spencer, this was the third single released from The Primitives’ 1988 debut album Lovely. It followed two unsuccessful singles, Ocean Blue and Thru the flowers, which were both released in 1987 but failed to chart.

In complete contrast, this release gave the band a huge international hit. It made the top five in the US, Ireland and Sweden whilst reaching the top twenty in South Africa and New Zealand. Here in the UK it spent ten weeks on the chart and peaked at number five, making it by far the band’s most successful release to date.
