8 May, 2000.

Let’s face it, getting myself dressed and making it to the bathroom (in time) is enough to make me feel proud of myself at the moment. Expectations are low right now. Please don’t judge.

Written by Heather Small and songwriter and producer Peter-John Vettese, this was the title track from Small’s debut album of the same name.

The song was originally released in 2000 when it became a UK hit, spending eight weeks on the chart and peaking at number sixteen. Five years later it was adopted as the official theme for the London 2012 Olympics bid, prompting a re-release of the track and its inclusion on M People’s greatest hits album Ultimate Collection, which also included two of Small’s solo tracks. On this occasion the song spent another two weeks on the UK chart and this time peaked at number thirty-three.

Personally, I think this song will always be about London 2012. It just summed up the buzz of the nation at the time…especially when we realised that the UK had actually pulled it off!
